has the pleasure to invite you to a forum on:

THE FUTURE OF TRADE IN FINANCIAL SERVICES: SAFEGUARDING STABILITY

WHEN: Friday, December 16 10:00-11:30 am CET
WHERE: Centre de Conférences de Varembé (CCV), Room B, 9-11 rue de Varembé, Geneva

With many economies still reeling from the aftermath of the financial crisis and with trade volumes only recently recovering, some WTO member states are exploring ways for the WTO to collaborate with other international organizations to prevent future financial crises. This session will examine the changed terrain and critical global challenges that characterize the post-crisis global economy in which the WTO plays a major role. Panelists will discuss the future of financial services liberalization and regulation and how current and prospective WTO rules relate to potential opportunities and risks – in light of lessons learned from the financial crisis and countries’ responses to it.

THE PANEL INCLUDES:
  • The Honourable Francisco Rivadeneira, Vice Minister of Trade and Integration, Ecuador
  • Jorge Acosta, Subsecretary for International Negotiations, Foreign Ministry, Ecuador
  • Alfredo Calcagno, Division on Globalization and Development Strategies, UNCTAD
  • Kavaljit Singh, Director, Public Interest Research Centre, India
